Top 3 team building activities inspired by the Mekong Delta not to be missed when visiting the real Indochina

Located where the Hau and Chau Doc rivers meet, Victoria Chau Doc Hotel offers visitors not just the opportunity to get away surrounded by the authentic beauty of Indochina but is also the ideal venue to build a spirit of camaraderie with unique Mekong Delta-inspired team building activities.

Three hours from Can Tho and about five hours from Ho Chi Minh City by car, Victoria Chau Doc Hotel offers visitors a range of team building activities that are perfect for summer. These activities not only foster team spirit, but also showcase the beauty of the Mekong Delta region.

Here are the top 3 Mekong Delta-inspired team building activities at Victoria Chau Doc Hotel this summer:

  1. Throw yourself into fishing for snakehead

Criss-crossed by alluvial rivers and a dense network of canals, the Mekong Delta has long been associated with river life. The lives of the simple and honest folk of the delta are closely tied to its many rivers, streams, and canals.

A common saying is that “feet that have not touched the mud have not yet been to the Mekong Delta”. On your journey to explore Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, don’t miss the opportunity to go fishing for snakehead fish in the irrigation ditches!

Guests are divided into teams before jumping into a ditch full of mud to try and catch snakehead fish. Snakehead is one of the specialties of Chau Doc, known as the “capital of fermented fish”. It’s commonly found on the dinner table of families in An Giang province. In order to do well at this raucously fun game, participants must turn themselves into hardworking farmers and fishermen ready to get down and dirty to catch as many fish as possible.

This activity is excellent for building team spirit and is a great form of exercise, as visitors experience an authentic way many people make a living in the countryside. Are you up to the challenge of wrangling slippery, thrashing snakehead fish? Come to Victoria Chau Doc to find out.

  1. Balancing bridge battles over the water

The balance bridge has become a popular game in the past few years in Chau Doc because this water challenge fits right into the Mekong Delta’s geography and way of life. Players must rock the bridge to knock their opponents off while maintaining their own balance. Whoever falls in the water is eliminated. Yesterday’s close colleague, attending the same meeting as you, might very well be a formidable opponent today as you both try your hardest to knock the other into the water.

This highly competitive game is excellent for team building events held by companies, clubs, associations, and groups. Before playing the game, participants don the traditional silk “ao ba ba” shirt and pants that are characteristic of the Mekong Delta. Splashing around in the water, forgetting all your cares, and having a great time with your colleagues are what make this balancing game a real winner.

  1. Conquer the forests of Cam Mountain

Trekking Cam Mountain is a superb team building exercise as participants need to help and encourage each other as you hike along winding paths through the forest, scamper up and down hilly terrain, walk through flat rice fields, and along orchards laden with fruit.

On this expedition to sacred Cam Mountain (“Forbidden Mountain” in Vietnamese), guests can immerse themselves in the beautiful landscapes, including solar farms and fruit plantations of custard apples and mangos, and cool off by wading through Thanh Long stream.

Along the trekking route on Cam Mountain, Victoria Chau Doc Hotel will arrange rest stops complete with drinking water and local specialty fruits such as scramberries, palm fruit and custard apples. Along the trek, participants will also have the opportunity to meet and interact with ethnic Khmer residents, beating drums and singing in their traditional costumes to cheer the hikers on while sharing local jaggery cakes.

Trekking sacred Cam Mountain, a part of the Seven Mountains range, provides participants with the opportunity to work on their self-discipline and teamwork skills while immersing themselves in the lifestyle and culture of this gorgeous border region.
