HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam ― In response to recent media reports of polluted waters along Vietnam’s north-central coastal provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Quang Binh and Hue, city officials from Danang called a press conference to announce that recent water testing confirmed its city beaches remain safe for swimmers.
On April 28, 2016, Dang Quang Vinh from the environmental protection division of the Danang Department of Natural Resources and Environment said that results from seawater testing on April 27 and 28, 2016 taken from some of Danang’s most popular beaches including Ngu Hanh Son, Son Tra, Thanh Khe and Lien Chieu districts showed that the water quality was unchanged compared to tests conducted on April 17, 2016 as well as throughout 2015. Samples were tested for mercury, lead, oxygen levels and more, and all measurements were within permissible ranges.
The city’s environmental technology center also confirmed that no mass fish deaths have been reported in Danang as has affected Vietnam’s north-central provinces in recent weeks. The city will continue to test seawater samples over the next 30 days with results posted on the websites of the department and the center.
